The conference "Fighting exclusion through technology" was successfully completed

Ολοκληρώθηκε με επιτυχία η ημερίδα: «Καταπολέμηση του αποκλεισμού μέσω της τεχνολογίας»

On the occasion of the World Human Rights Day and the World Migration Day, December 10 and 18 respectively, a conference on "Combating exclusion through technology" organized by the Institute was held with great success at the Golden Age of Athens hotel.

In the framework of the conference, the presentation of the innovative mobile application called Fight for Rights took place. An app through which we can report blocking incidents, anonymously, whether we are victims or witnesses.

More specifically,

At the meeting, the vice-president of the ND and head of the Defense Department, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, addressed the conference expressed his support and his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the latest terrorist acts, stressing that these acts reinforce the exclusion that has no place in our modern society.

Mr. Halil Ahmet, president of the Union of Immigrants of Greece awarded an honorary plaque to Mr. Georgiadis and also to Mr. Makis Pounentis, representative of the Yava gyms for their sponsorship.

Also, Mr. Dimitrios Alefantis, president of the "Youth Leadership -the exelixis institute" presented an honorary plaque to Mr. Pounentis Makis and expressed his warm thanks for the sponsorship of the Yava Fitness Centers group in this project.

Mr. Ilhan Ahmed, River Member of Parliament from the prefecture of Rodopi, in his turn emphasized that the application is very useful for our society and also for the immigrants who have contributed to the economy of our country during the 90s and gave birth to their children in our country. He added that we should not see them as a "threat" but as an opportunity for the economic revitalization of some neighborhoods.

Mr. Jean-Daniel Colombani as project manager of the Fight for Rights app, warmly thanked Yava gyms for sponsoring this technological achievement. He referred to the concept of this project, its utility and operation.

Mr. Nikolaos Peppas, economist and paralympian, spoke about the difficulties faced by a citizen in our country with mobility problems, he developed the term diversity and how we have invented this word to stigmatize those who are not like us.

Mr. Nikos Kostopoulos, secretary of scientific bodies of the New Democracy, addressed a greeting talking about the fear faced by the citizens of Central and Northern Europe, pointing out that the fight against the blockade is self-evident for everyone personally.

At the round table sat Mr. Anastasopoulos, lawyer and president of E-Themis, who spoke about the Gordian bond of the legislator and the protection of the citizen's free expression.

Mrs. Zefi Dimadama, vice-president of the women's European Socialist party, focused on the marginalization of women in society, characterizing the Fight for Rights application as original and useful.

Mr. Michalis Marioras, assistant professor in the theology department of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, referred to the religious exclusion pointing out that Greece, slowly but surely, seems to be developing more and more into a multicultural society.

Mrs. Dina Vardamatou, coordinator of PRAXIS programs, reminded that a very small percentage of blocking becomes widely known, resulting in the solution of the problem not occurring, thus confirming the utility of the application.

Mr. Panos Efstathiou, Orthopedic surgeon and President of the Hellenic Society for Crisis Management in the Health sector, also attended and spoke at the conference, pointing out that it is very important that there is no exclusion in the health sector, thus protecting both immigrants and the citizens of our country.

Ms. Pamela Karavas, human skills coach, CEO of Coaching Evolution Int'l Ltd, analyzed how the external appearance of men and women has changed from a very young age in order to be "liked" in the social environment and not experience, in a sense, the exclusion.

Mr. Zalmai Pashtoun, vice-president of the Union of Immigrants of Greece and president of Afghans of Greece, referred to the usefulness of the application, stressing that many immigrants do not make complaints due to fear.

Mr. Nikos Kostopoulos, Development Manager at the Youth Business Network, as the youngest speaker, spoke about the stereotypes that exist in the workplace due to age.

Finally, Mr. Christos Koromilas, a partner of the Institute, touched on his concern about people with vision problems and how society does not protect them enough.
